"...MDA is also rightly targeting a longer-term solution in the "multiple kill vehicle," but Congress should resist any urge to skip the critical interim step of developing and deploying the redesigned kill vehicle by 2018. This redesign is hardly a "band-aid" as some have reported; it will provide performance enhancements and reliability upgrades by leveraging existing Standard Missile-3 technology. This is the lowest-risk, lowest-cost option to ensure our homeland is protecting in the near-term. ..."

Sessions says missile cuts 'unacceptable'
"...takes about $1.2 billion from national missile defense, much of it from the Ground-based Midcourse Defense program led by Boeing in Huntsville. Sessions also pointed out that work has stopped on the Kinetic Energy Interceptor and Multiple Kill Vehicle follow-on programs, and that about $900 million will also be moved to theater missiles, "leaving us a real big hole and very damaging cuts in national missile defense." ..."

The bill includes nearly $8.7 billion for MDA programs, including about $284 million for the Multiple Kill Vehicle, $387 million for the Kinetic Energy Interceptor and $915 million for Ballistic Missile Defense System Tests and Targets..."
