Engineer helped astronauts reach the moon safely
"...As chief of calibration at the Army Missile Defense in Huntsville, Ala., during the 1960s and early '70s, he helped make sure that the Saturn V rocket developed under Wernher von Braun at NASA's nearby Marshall Space Flight Center was safe to launch astronauts into space on several missions, including 1969's historic moon landing...."
