After performing flyout maneuvers, the two-stage booster delivered an exoatmospheric kill vehicle to a designated point in space. The exoatmospheric kill vehicle is the component that, if a target missile were present, would collide directly with the threat warhead to perform a “hit to kill” intercept. After separating from the second-stage booster, the kill vehicle executed a variety of maneuvers to collect data to further prove the performance of the kill vehicle in space...."

The study called into question the test record of the Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) sea-based interceptor that is designed to intercept and destroy short- to medium-range ballistic missiles. The ACT article stated that successful intercepts during tests of the SM-3 actually “missed” targets and should not have been assessed as successful.
The Missile Defense Agency strongly refutes this allegation. The SM-3 program is one of the most successful programs within the Department of Defense, with operational interceptors now deployed aboard U.S. Navy ships...."

Reference: www.montgomeryadvertiser.com .Huntsville, AL. - Two (2) employees were severely burned in an incident at Redstone Arsenal today while doing work with the Aviation Missile Research Development and Engineering Center approximately 8:45 AM. It is alleged the AMTEC Corporation employees were working with ammonium perchlorate composite propellant (APCP). APCP is typically used in high power rocket motors. The explosion occurred at Building 7352, where employees were involved in work relating to the capture and reprocess of the ammonium perchlorate for possible future reuse as solid rocket fuel. Building 7352 is used for aviation and missile testing. The building was designed to contain a blast in the event of an explosion during this inherently dangerous type of work.
At least one of the injured will be transported to UAB Hospital. Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured and their families.
Huntsville is known worldwide as the Rocket City.
